#JacksonFamily Interviews with Alicia Fabbri (CAN)
Thanks for taking the time to do this interview! Why don’t you give us a quick intro! Tell us a little bit about yourself — where you’re from, when and why you started skating?
Hi, I’m Alicia and I’m from Terrebonne, QC. I started skating at 3-years-old because every time I went to the rink to watch my brother’s hockey games, I always wanted to get on the ice and skate.
What are some of your hobbies and how do you balance life being an elite athlete?
I love boating because it allows me to relax while enjoying the outdoors. For school, I am lucky to go to a place that allows me to have some classes in the morning and then train in the afternoon. My teachers are really helpful when we need to leave for a competition.
On the topic of school, what are you favourite subjects in school?
My favourite subject in school is probably mathematics, even if I have to hit my head against the wall sometimes ;)
2018 is a new season, new partnership for you. Tell us about Paul. How did it come about? How has your first season training together been?
My new partnership with Paul started this past April. We knew each other because we had competed against each other for years, so when I needed to find another partner I knew he was looking for one to. Paul came to Montreal for a tryout and it went really well!
You guys are part of a very strong junior ice dance contingency from Canada. Talk about what it’s like competing in such a deep field of athletes.
For me it’s motivating because I’m a really competitive person. I like the challenge that it gives us; we need to perform to be at the top.
You guys had great success at your first JGP assignment, tell us about that experience and what are your goals for the rest of the season?
We really enjoyed our time at our first JGP. It was a pretty good experience together considering we had only been training together for four months. It was also a learning experience because the airline lost our skates during travel. We had to do the first practice on our feet! But we managed it really well! Our goals for the season are to increase our scores at every competition and to go to Juniors Worlds since it’s our last junior-eligible year.
What are your goals as you move forward into the years ahead?
My ultimate goal would be to go to the Olympic Games. I’ve dreamt of it since I started skating. But, in the shorter term, it would be to participate at international competitions at the senior level.
So far in skating, what would you say has been a highlight or proudest moment as a skater?
For me, my proudest moment was last season when I won a bronze medal at a JGP with my previous partner!
What does your equipment and the #JacksonFamily mean to you?
I have been apart of the Jackson Family since day one because I have been skating on Jackson products since I first stepped on the ice. I am really happy about being in the Jackson Family — I’ve had different skate models, but I always felt the best in my Jacksons. This season I had Jackson customs made and they are amazing — I love them! I could wear them all day long!
