#JacksonFamily Interviews Corey Circelli

Corey is the 2018 Canadian Junior Silver Medalist. Aside from being a very talented singles skater, Corey is also a Jr Ice Dancer! He currently trains at the Toronto Cricket Club. Corey is a recipient of the 2018 Toller Cranston Award.

The Toller Cranston Memorial Fund Athlete Award celebrates Next Gen skaters who display exceptional artistry on ice at the 2018 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships at the Novice and Junior levels.

We chatted with Corey ahead of the summer and got to know this SUPER talented young athlete!

Thanks for doing this Corey! Tell us a little bit about yourself — where you’re from, when and why you started skating?

C: I was born in Manchester, England. I moved to Toronto when I was three-years-old and started to learn to skate. Tracy Wilson taught me how to skate and she is one of my main coaches.

What are some of your hobbies and how do you balance other things in your life with being an elite athlete?

C: I love to bake and spend time with my friends. I make sure I use my rest days to meet up with my friends, and I like to use my time — after I finish my homework — to enjoy baking. I love desserts.

What’s your favourite subject in school?

C: English is my favourite subject, I love to write.

How do you balance training and competing in singles and ice dance? What do you like most about each discipline?

C: I train at different times with different coaches. I do ice dance in the early morning, then I go to school and do singles in the afternoon. I like that it’s a different environment for each discipline. In ice dance, I love performing and skating with a partner.

In singles, I love to jump, spin and perform as well. When I skate, I really feel the music. I’ve always done two disciplines, so for me it’s quite normal at competitions to compete in both.

Tell us a bit about your proudest moment so far in your skating career?

C: My most memorable moment was Nationals 2017, performing a great free dance, and two hours later winning the National Novice Men’s title.

What does the #JacksonFamily mean to you?

C: I use Jackson skates in ice dance because they make me feel great. They are very comfortable and they are my favourite dance skate I’ve ever worn. My equipment is the single most important part of what I do, and it’s special that I get to wear a product that allows me to compete & perform at the highest level. Without the Jackson Family, this would not be possible.
